May is Bicycle Safety month. The Medina Township Police Department will be promoting bike safety with the “Meet the Chief Night” at Yours Truly on May 17th and May 31st from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

We will be giving away a bike to one lucky winner. From May 1st to May 31st you can enter to win a bike at Yours Truly Restaurant located at 3725 Medina Road, Medina Ohio.  The bike was donated by Spin Medina located at 4463 Weymouth Road, Medina, Ohio. Winner must be 15 years old or younger to win.  The drawing will be held on May 31st at 7:30pm.  You may enter as often as you like and you do not need to be present to win.

We will be providing bike safety information and promote the new law that is now in effect to make bike riding safer. HB 154, which passed in December, makes Ohio one of more than half of the states to put in place a three-foot passing law and brings together municipal efforts to legislate the safety of bicyclists. It updates a previous state law requiring drivers to pass bicyclists at a safe distance.

Under the new law: "The operator of a vehicle overtaking another vehicle shall pass to the left at a safe distance and shall not again drive to the right until safely clear of the overtaken vehicle. When a motor vehicle overtakes and passes a bicycle, three feet or greater is considered a safe passing distance.
